Probably one of the most popular events in the Central Florida area, the New Smyrna Beach Balloon & Sky Fest takes to the air once more for its 7th annual event. The festivities run April 17-19 at the New Smyrna Beach Municipal Airport.
If you’re at Sea Shells Beach Club this weekend, the Balloon and Sky Fest is a great way to have some low-cost family fun.
The daytime airshow featuring Aeroshell T-6 planes circling overhead is the pre-cursor for the nighttime activities. When dusk falls, more than 20 hot air balloons will take off, lighting up the night sky with their glow. Passenger rides are also available, weather permitting.
Helicopter and airplane rides are available all day each day, along with live entertainment, rides, a kid zone, animals and more.
In addition to night and day air shows, evening hot-air balloon glows and morning balloon flights, the Balloon & Sky Fest will have some grounded attractions for every guest to enjoy.
Get out your engineering hat. Robotics, radio-controlled airplanes and helicopters, NASA displays and more grace Inspiration Village, an inspiring and educational experience.
Ever wonder how hot air balloons work? Visit any of the pilots during evening Balloon Glows and they’ll answer all your ballooning questions.
The 4-H Animal Encounter
It’s hard to resist getting up close to animals, and you can do just that with the horses, cows, goats, sheep and birds of prey at the Animal Encounter. Rumor has it Gus the camel will be on site giving his special kisses during part of the weekend (if you’re into that sort of thing).
Balloon & Sky Fest is about aviation, and you’ll find a variety of flying machines to look at on the event grounds. From the giant WWII TBM Avenger torpedo bomber to a turbine-powered DC-3 used on missionary flights, there are plenty of aircraft to look at.
Rides, games, arcades – the carnival area has everything it takes to provide an afternoon or evening of extra fun.
Plus, see Florida’s best stunt kite team, QuadFX, perform along with the Precision Horse Demonstration Team.
When the rides are over, enjoy the perfect wind-down with food, beer, and lots of rockin’ music.
