Motorsports Hall of Fame of America Officially Opens in Florida

The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA) is about to celebrate its grand opening, but it’s not new. In fact, the institution has been headquartered in Novi, Michigan since 1989 and boasts a long list of impressive inductees.

But let’s be honest, America’s Motorsports Hall of Fame belongs in Daytona Beach at none other than the famous Daytona International Speedway.

If you visit Sea Shells Beach Club for the races, like Rolex 24 and Daytona 500, don’t miss a chance to visit MSHFA (which has actually been open to visitors in Daytona since July).

The official grand opening happens on February 17, with a star-studded lineup of past inductees scheduled to attend, including Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Richard Childress, Tom D’Eath, Hurley Haywood, Buddy Martin (Sox & Martin), Bill Seebold, Rusty Wallace and Humpy Wheeler.

MSHFA President Ron Watson “The racing immortals who will be with us on Feb. 17 will help us usher in a new era for the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America. The compelling stories of all of our inductees collectively form the foundation of our new facility. Combine those individual histories with our many classic racing vehicles and our other exhibits, and you have a hall of fame that is truly a must-see.”

The Museum

According to their website, MSHFA is a place to “immortalize the immortals”, providing a showcase of the lives and achievements of the best people (and vehicles) that define the sport.

The museum includes the following:

  • “Sweep of Speed” panoramic that captures, at a glance, the broad spectrum of motorsports
  • Actual vehicles from different eras
  • Memorabilia displays
  • Plaques honoring each inductee

Also being unveiled on the same day is the Robert E. Peterson Theatre and Tribute Room, which greets guests entering the MSHFA attraction.

Hall of Fame

“Heroes of horsepower” have been inducted into the MSHFA for nearly three decades under their respective categories like aviation, drag racing, motorcycles, sports cars and more. You can view the digital Hall of Fame online.

The 2017 inductees were just announced in late January! Click here for the list of this year’s seven inductees (the official ceremony happens on June 28 in Daytona).

With the recent “One Daytona” $400 million makeover of the Daytona International Speedway, Daytona is certainly on the rise as the very best destination for motorsports and much more.
