Just 20 minutes from Sea Shells Beach Club, New Smyrna Beach is quite a find. Pristine beaches and small-town charm make New Smyrna a great day trip. And there’s no shortage of fantastic restaurants either.
From Spanish fusion to burger shacks, New Smyrna is rich in great food. Here are some of the most highly recommended eateries, no matter what you’re in the mood for.
J.B.’s Fish Camp & Seafood
Coastal Living named J.B.’s Fish Camp & Seafood one of the “Top 10 Southern Seafood Dives” in the United States. This waterfront restaurant overlooks the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Indian River on the other. It’s a loud, laid-back no-fuss kind of restaurant where the seafood is the star of the show. Soft-shell crabs, shrimp, grouper, crab cakes, and all of it is ridiculously good. Try the oyster stew.
Spanish River Grill
James Beard-nominated chef Henry Salgado creates different Spanish fusion dishes every day and features different specials, like $5 tacos. The restaurant has garnered the most attention for its well-prepared gourmet dishes like snapper ceviche and yuca-crusted fish. Looking for a truly memorable brunch? Sunday mornings serve up Spanish and Cuban infusion brunches.
Norwood’s Restaurant and Wine Shop wasn’t always a restaurant-it started off as a gas station and general store in 1929, and later became a piggy bank factory before becoming the restaurant known as Norwood’s in 1946. Recently added at Norwoods was a treehouse bar, where you can sip your cocktails from a deck-like structure right in the middle of an old tree. The rustic old wood throughout the restaurant provides a warm, inviting atmosphere in which to enjoy classic dishes and a wine shop with about 30,000 bottles to choose from.
Italian sounds good, right? And good Italian is what’s happening at The Garlic, a “casually sophisticated” restaurant, in that you can be casual but the food won’t, with authentic and complex Tuscan cuisine gracing the menu. Specialties like herbed Sicilian lamb and ravioli bolognaise are created inside the restaurant’s enchanted, forest-like atmosphere. On the weekends, live music plays for diners, many of whom are seated at the recently added Blue Bar.
Yellow Dog Eats
It’s all about the meat, and if you’re craving some ribs and pulled pork, Yellow Dog Eats is a hip hangout with a large, comfy patio that delivers on just that. Popular dishes on the menu include signature sandwiches like hot diggity dawg, and savory barbecue selections like pigs with benefits and club Elvis. Yellow Dog Eats has signature sandwiches, wraps and meat-free meals for vegetarians, too.
The Breakers Restaurant
Sometimes, a burger is all you really want at the end of the day. If that’s the case, head to Breakers, consistently ranked as one of the top burger joints in Central Florida. The Breakers Restaurant is an iconic Cadillac-pink building that has been a New Smyrna Beach landmark for more than a century. Diners flock here for the 17 different burger flavors including the pure and simple beach burger, as well as chili, jalapeño, Hawaiian and pizza burgers. Request a seat on the large outdoor deck overlooking the ocean.
No matter how you slice it, the menu of dining options at New Smyrna Beach is pretty amazing.
